Digha Sankarpur Development Authority
The Government of West Bengal constituted the Digha Development Authority (DDA) in 1993 as a statutory body under the Urban Development Department (Town & Country Planning Branch) for the planned and orderly development of the Digha area.
Subsequently, in 2003, Sankarpur was brought under the jurisdiction of the Authority, and the Authority was renamed as the Digha Sankarpur Development Authority (DSDA). With the inclusion of Sankarpur, the jurisdiction of the Authority extended over 8,752.66 acres (35.42 sq. km.) comprising 42 Mouzas adjoining the coastal area.Thereafter, Mandarmoni and Tajpur, comprising 9 (Nine) Mouzas with a total area of 8,467.92 acres (34.27 sq. km.), were brought under the jurisdiction of DSDA.
Subsequently in 2026, an additional 202 Mouzas under Contai-I and Contai-II Blocks, covering an area of 37,090.292 acres (150.10 sq. km.), were included within the jurisdiction of DSDA with the objective of promoting coastal tourism and ensuring planned and orderly development of the region.
With these successive expansions, the jurisdiction of the Digha Sankarpur Development Authority now extends over a total area of approximately 54,310.332 acres (219.79 sq. km.).
Over the years, DSDA has been actively engaged in the development and augmentation of tourism infrastructure, while simultaneously strengthening and improving the existing infrastructure within its jurisdiction. Significant initiatives have also been undertaken to improve road connectivity and accessibility for the rural population, thereby facilitating smoother access to important tourist destinations and promoting balanced regional development.Particular emphasis has been placed on augmenting tourism-related infrastructure, improving connectivity, and creating the necessary facilities to support the growing number of tourists visiting the coastal destinations under the jurisdiction of DSDA.
